With winter sports in the home stretch, Milly fans have plenty to cheer about on the court and on the ice. For many Mustangs, 2022-2023 is the most ‘normal’ season they have experienced at Millbrook, and the rigorous schedule has built strong teams and solid records.
Billy Thom, head coach of the boys varsity basketball team, is especially thrilled with the season's trajectory. “We’re having one of the best, if not
the best season in school history,” said Coach Thom. “We have knocked off schools with history and pedigree like Philips Andover and Hotchkiss, have beaten Class B rivals Pomfret and Canterbury, and still have opportunities to add to our resume down the stretch.”
Coach Thom credits the team's dedication and the willingness of every member to do whatever is required for the 13-5 record they’ve amassed. “We are lucky to have so many student-athletes who know our values, our goals, and the techniques necessary to affect others in a positive way,” he added. “Along with the pride we take in our record on the court, we value our performance in this community, in the classroom, and in college placements for much of our senior lineup.”
The playoff push is on with only six regular season games left to play. A Saturday night showcase against Salisbury followed by a Senior Day matchup against Frederick Gunn in the final home game of the regular season (Saturday, February 25, at 4:00 p.m.) will fill the Wray Gym with the fired-up faithful Mustang supporters hoping for lots of postseason bonus basketball.
