Trevor Zoo Hosts Dutchess County Tourism Ambassadors
On Tuesday night, Millbrook’s Trevor Zoo had the honor of hosting a networking event for the Dutchess Tourism Ambassador Program. Around 60 people attended, including many Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTAs) from all over Dutchess County.
In addition to entertaining and facilitating networking opportunities, the event introduced the Trevor Zoo to CTAs who regularly guide visitors to area attractions. The Attendees were treated to a tour of the facilities, which included interacting with zoo staff giving keeper talks and up-close meetings with some of the animals. Trevor Zoo Director Dr. Alan Tousignant and Dutchess Tourism President & CEO Melaine Rottkamp delivered speeches, and everyone enjoyed food and drink provided by local sponsors.
The CTA program is a national credential that Dutchess County offers to enhance tourism in the region. Along with providing an invaluable connection to the local community, the program promotes county tourism—and the Trevor Zoo by association—on a global scale at various tradeshows and through other marketing endeavors.
Trevor Zoo Director of Media Daniel Cohen ’86 is a CTA who attended Tuesday’s festivities. He credited the program with helping increase the zoo’s brand awarenes.
“We have the benefit of Dutchess Tourism and the CTA program spreading the word,” he said. “And I think a lot of people have found out about the zoo because of the work Dutchess Tourism has done on our behalf.”
Along with Daniel, the zoo’s Director of Programs Jessica Bennett and Mill Gift Shop Attendant File Gjidoda are also CTAs, helping Millbrook School and the Trevor Zoo foster a symbiotic relationship with the Dutchess County community and beyond.
