CES - Noor '21

Noor Rahman discovered a creative outlet and a bit of sanctuary with her hands in the clay at Holbrook’s ceramics studio. Noor first engaged with ceramics as an independent study. Her CES, Ceramics Surface Design, features the most recent results of her journey to becoming a skilled artisan able to create intricate and intentional work.

 

Beginning with wheel-thrown vessels, Noor deployed a variety of surface embellishment techniques to realize her vision of pieces suggestive of the miracle of creation as viewed through the lens of her faith. Reflecting on her work, Noor recognized a subconscious connection to the pottery of the Indian subcontinent and was struck by the representation of her heritage in her work. Noor used the ceramics studio as a home base on campus and it became the place where she most comfortable expressing herself.
