Millbrook’s Warner Gallery’s winter art exhibition, Trick Mirror, features a visually delectable array of trompe l’oeil works from six local and New York City area artists: Katelyn Ledford, Erik Daniel White, Abbi Kenny, Meena Hasan, Lauryn (Red) Welch, and Ada Goldfeld.
Trompe l’oeil, a French term that translates to “trick the eye,” is an artistic style that employs realism to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on flat surfaces. Trick Mirror welcomes visitors to embrace their unique perspectives when engaging with the artwork:
“Each artist in the show convincingly creates works that bring the viewer into another world while connecting to our present reality through their lighting, compositions, and content,” explained show curator Kiernan Pazdar. “A trick mirror shows you different things depending on how you look at it. Understanding and interpreting representation relies on one’s cultural understanding and experience of the world, which can vary greatly even when looking at something that appears to be concrete.”
The show will be open until March 7.
