Mustang Basketball Finishes Strong

The Millbrook Mustang boys varsity basketball team finished the regular season 15-6 and muscled their way into post-season play. True team play, a hallmark of the team under Head Coach Billy Thom, carried the squad to the NEPSAC Semifinals, where they fell to a very tough Canterbury team on their home court.

The boys closed out the regular season with a 12-game winning streak capped off by a decisive win over Route 44 rivals Pomfret in the first round of the NEPSAC tournament. The exceptional senior leadership of Nate Denham, Jo’el Emanuel, and Sharif Nelson, aided and abetted by Vth form standouts Liam Kennelly and Lucius Gibson-Savadel yielded a team built on solid group fundamentals that left room for individual excellence. “I have seldom been part of a team in which everyone so willingly and fully accepted their roles,” said Coach Thom. “This entire group of players, coaches, and managers have jumped the Millbrook Boys Basketball program to a new level never seen in the school’s history, and for that I’m eternally grateful and proud.”

Team turnover is inevitable in scholastic sports and legacies are very rare. The Mustang boys played for the present while strengthening the program for the future.
