Millbrook Girls Take a Strong Second at Annual Gordy Glover Invitational

Coach Havard
It was a strong team showing on Saturday at Suffield Academy for Millbrook Girls Cross Country, with individual improvements across the field.
Andy Sassatelli found her stride early and took first in the race of 40 runners in 18:54, over 2:30 ahead of the rest of the competition. While she made it look easy, Sassatelli pushed hard in the second half of the race to come in under 19:00. The pack of Selina Hung, Jaicee Downs, and Ingrid Schmitt again used each other to make a difference in the race. Selina ran an especially strategic and competitive race, passing several runners in the second half to finish 7th overall. Jaicee was close behind in 9th, and Ingrid took 12th; each set their sights on runners ahead of them and passed them in the final half-mile. Millbrook's 5th runner this time was Estella Brandenberg, who figured out when she could start her final push and bettered her time significantly from her two previous races. Freshmen Anya Kelmanovich and first-time racer Ameera Pena finished out the field for Millbrook with solid performances. Millbrook came within four points of beating Miss Porter's and showed themselves to be a force to be reckoned with this season! Check back in for race photos soon, and come support our JV race at Millbrook this Wednesday, and our race against Hotchkiss at Trinity Pawling on Friday!
