Millbrook School prefect and boys varsity basketball sensation Zoumana Traore ‘25 scored his 1,000th career point on Wednesday night in front of his home crowd at the Mills Athletic Center.
Mustang milestones are quickly becoming a theme this basketball season. Zoumana’s accomplishment comes just over a month after his teammate Chase Garcia ’25 reached quadruple digits for his career. Za’Nyah Bernard ’25 also notched her 1,000th point in December for the girls varsity basketball team.
Millbrook Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach Billy Thom, who has watched Zoumana progress as a high schooler, praised his star’s high-character play:
“Given the continuous growth that Zoumana has shown over his four years at Millbrook, it’s no surprise that we’re celebrating him scoring his 1,000th career point. What feels even more impressive to me is the way he has done that—never forcing shots, always caring for his teammates and program, and being the emotionally solid leader that he is.”
Zoumana’s milestone was part of an 18-point performance that helped the Mustangs to a decisive 76–58 victory over New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AA opponent Cheshire Academy, which entered the contest ranked No. 53 in the country. With the win, Millbrook, which was ranked 46th earlier in the season, could see a bump back up from its current No. 61 ranking.
At 10–2 (9–0 NEPSAC), Zoumana and the rest of the boys are well-positioned to make the postseason and compete for a New England championship. Bringing the trophy home to Millbrook would be a perfect way to send Zoumana off to his next basketball destination: NCAA Division I Brown University.
