Millbrook found themselves in a classic high-school basketball game Saturday night at the 1st Annual NEPSAC Class B Tip-Off Showcase. After a magical mystery bus tour to get from Millbrook to Marianapolis, the Mustangs started slowly against the local Griffins of Pomfret School. Down by as many as 13 in the first half, Millbrook cut the lead to eight in the first half behind hot shooting from Jayden Reaves '19. The second half saw the game become even closer as Pomfret and Millbrook traded the lead most possessions in the last four minutes of the game. Being held scoreless in the first half, AJ Morales '19 exploded mid-way through the second half to score nine straight points. A Colby Martins '20 lay-up gave Millbrook their first lead with 3:15 to go in the game.
Regulation was just not enough time to decide such a tough-minded battle, as a Mustang miss at the buzzer sent the contest into a first overtime. That overtime saw a back and forth affair that ended with a tough buzzer-beating three-pointer by Pomfret sent the game into a second overtime. Millbrook started the second overtime on a 5-0 run and did not look back, outscoring Pomfret 9-5 in the final frame. The win moved Millbrook to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Class B. Millbrook will be on the road Wednesday, 12/5 against Class A opponent Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT.
