Mustangs Sweep Zero Gravity Prep Classic

Millbrook’s boys varsity basketball team traveled to Stoughton, MA, over the weekend to play in the Zero Gravity Prep Classic. The boys enjoyed a successful business trip, topping New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A opponent Andover Academy and fellow Class B squad Proctor Academy.

Billed as the largest prep school basketball event in the U.S., the Zero Gravity Prep Classic brings together 70+ teams and more than 150 college coaches at the Dana Barros Basketball Club. The event provides excellent exposure that helps many Mustangs go on to play in college.

Led by VIth former and Brown University commit Zoumana Traore ‘25, the Mustangs galloped past Andover on Sunday 67–62. After a sluggish start on Sunday morning, Millbrook notched a 60–51 victory over Proctor.

Playing in front of his future college coach, Traore put up 21 points in each game despite opponents focusing their defensive efforts on stopping him. The Mustangs star received outstanding support from his teammates, including Chase Garcia ‘25, who played tough defense on Andover standout Xavier Abreu, one of the best shooters in New England.

In the second game, with most of the starting lineup injured or in foul trouble, players like Joe Evangelista ‘25, Hezi McCoy ‘26, and Amadou Fall ‘25 stepped up and secured the win.

“They really anchored us,” Millbrook Head Coach Billy Thom said. “At one point, with about five minutes to go, we had one starter in the game because of foul trouble—and Marcos [Wiscovitch Frontera ‘26] turned his ankle—so a lot of guys stepped up. I thought yesterday was a real turning point in terms of team cohesion, everybody feeling like, ‘Oh, we can all do this; we all belong.’”

Buoyed by their team's depth, Traore and Garcia earned all-tournament team honorable mentions.

Coach Thom also noted that beating Class B Proctor could help Millbrook secure a spot in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament at the end of the season. The Mustangs came up short in the NEPSAC finals last season and are looking to win it all this year.

Off to a 3–0 start to the 2024–25 season, the team is on track to reach its championship goals.
