Millbrook Holds First Homecoming

This year featured a huge first for the Millbrook community, as the school held the first Homecoming in its 94-year history on Saturday.

Students enjoyed a lively Spirit Week leading up to the Homecoming festivities. Each day of the week had a different theme: Monday was twin day, and participating students and faculty paired up and dressed alike. Nineties, team jersey, dorm color, and Millbrook merch days followed, filling campus with creative costumes and school spirit.

As tradition dictates, students staged Homecoming Dance proposals. For example, Ranly Cano ‘25 made the grand gesture of singing a song in Assembly to ask Piper Smith ‘25 to the dance. She said yes!

Millbrook capped off Spirit Week with a pep rally for the ages. With strobe lights flashing, several dedicated faculty members—including Head of School Jonathan Downs ‘98—pulled into the Wray Gymnasium on motorcycles. Mr. Downs proceeded to knock out some pushups at center court before doing a set of pullups on the rim. Needless to say, students were thoroughly hyped by their leader’s flashy entrance and ferocious feats of strength.

When Saturday finally rolled around, the community participated in a packed afternoon of athletic competitions for Millbrook-Pomfret Day—including the Mustangs’ 40–20 drubbing of the Griffins in football. But right as Millbrook began the beatdown of its rivals, students fulfilled another tradition as they finished voting for their Homecoming Court.

Ranly’s Assembly performance won him more than just a date, as he was crowned Homecoming King. Piper and Lilly Ainley ’25 were proclaimed co-Homecoming Queens when the vote ended in a tie.

With all the pieces in place, the freshly elected royals celebrated their coronation at the Homecoming Dance with their classmates in the gym.

The first Homecoming was an all-around success. Hopefully, there are many more Millbrook Homecomings ahead!
