Millbrook Takes 5th in a Big Field at Canterbury Invitational
Coach Havard
Andy Sassatelli takes 2nd in the race of nearly 100 finishers, beating out her next opponent by 11 seconds in a hard-fought race.
Millbrook runners made a strong start to the season at the annual Canterbury Invitational. The D2 girls race was the last of the day—and the largest—with a field of nearly 100 runners. Freshman phenom Andy Sassatelli went out hard, finishing the first mile just behind senior Claire Palmer of Kingswood Oxford, who ultimately won the race. Sassatelli showed tons of heart by staying in it the whole way and fending off the challenge from Candace Maple of Cushing to take 2nd in 20:03. Many exciting races to come for Andy!
Sophomore Selina Hung and junior co-captain Jaicee Downs settled into their strides early, and each steadily pushed her way up the field, finishing in 21st and 25th respectively. Next in for Millbrook was Ingrid Schmitt, looking strong, followed by first-time 5k racers Eloise Hegeman and Estella Brandenberg, and Nga Ho, who also moved up steadily the whole race. It was a great day, and we can't wait to see what the team will do this season! First home race is Saturday, September 28th. Come on out!
