The Mustangs travelled to King for the WNEPSGSBA semifinals. They were excited for the rematch from earlier in the season, a one run loss.
King jumped out to a one run lead in the first, after a monster triple. The Mustangs evened it in the 2nd inning, when Evelynn Najork rocked her first career home run.
The third inning saw scoring from both sides. Kate Craig stayed hot in the DH spot, starting things off with a single. Morgan Reed continued the momentum with a double, and An Tran kept it going with a beautiful bunt and heads up baserunning. The score was 4-3, Millbrook lead at the end of the third.
The scoring continued in the 4th inning for both sides. Najork started things off with a walk, Aaliyah Almeida singled, Morgan Reed tripled, and Tran had another single. 7-6 Millbrook lead at the end of the 4th.
The 5th inning saw no change in score, as both teams traded quick innings.
In the 6th inning, the Mustangs loaded the bases but couldn’t scratch a run, with a double by Abby Hylan and another single by Craig and Tran. The Millbrook defense held King in the bottom of the 6th, including a great catch from Tran.
Singer and Najork singled in the 7th, but the Mustangs couldn’t add to their one run lead. Millbrook got the key first out of the bottom of the 7th, but some timely good hits from the heart of the King lineup sealed the deal for a walk off hit in the bottom of the 7th - 7-8 King win. We wish King luck in the Class C finals.
Shout outs to every member of the team today - everyone brought the energy, despite the heat. And every player in the line up had a hit.
The coaches are proud of the efforts of this team, both today and all season. It’s not often that a team that starts the season 0-5 can rally and make playoffs, but this is a special team!
