Police Officer
Officer Melissa Rome currently works as a patrol officer for the town of Newington, CT, and has been doing so since May 2020. Before working in Newington, Officer Rome worked for the city of Hartford, CT, for two years.
She graduated from the Hartford Police Academy at the top of her class, receiving the Samuel Luciano award in October 2018. In 2024, she received a Lifesaving Citation for her efforts during an incident that occurred on May 26th, 2020, when a motorist suffered a heart attack while driving, subsequently crashing into a parked vehicle and requiring CPR.
After graduating from Millbrook in 2011, Officer Rome received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in Management from Norwich University in Northfield, VT, in 2015. Before becoming a police officer, she worked in private security in settings such as casinos, airports, and concert venues. She also volunteered as a firefighter and a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member in her local hometown of Enfield, CT. She has also volunteered with the Red Cross of CT, helping those in need who have recently lost their homes to fires.
Officer Rome is currently working toward her master's degree in communication at the University of Connecticut and is set to graduate in May of 2025. She is married and has an all-black German Shepherd named Nova.
