Past, current, and incoming members of Millbrook’s riding team were in the neighborhood this past weekend to compete in the 2019 Millbrook Horse Trials. Throughout the weekend, riders competed and placed in events across multiple divisions. The top performance from a Millbrook rider went to Anna Duggan ’17 who placed 2nd in the open Novice Division on the Irish Sport Horse Celestial Conviction. Current student Izzy Finemore ’21 and incoming IV former Jack Curtis ’21 both placed 5th in the Junior Preliminary and Junior Training division respectively. Sloane Pierpont ’18, Lizzie Chamberlin ’18, and Josie Duggan ’22 were also in attendance, putting on elegant performances.
Attracting over 4500 competitors and spectators to Millbrook’s neighbor, Coole Park, the Millbrook Horse Trials is one of the top events in the country. With 3 equine disciplines: dressage, cross country, and stadium jumping, riders compete in the “triathlon of the equestrian world.” The event is a part of a long tradition of equestrian tradition in Dutchess County, and is an opportunity for members of Millbrook’s riding team to watch and compete against some of the top horses and riders from around the country, and around the world.
Previously considered a sport alternative at Millbrook School, the riding program has become so popular and prominent that it is now being recognized as a proper team. While members can choose to ride at a few local stables, such as Coole Park or Kildare Stables, members have recently officially started competing as a team. We look forward to sharing their success as they continue to compete throughout the year.
