In an expansive room at the New York Racquet & Tennis Club, hundreds of Millbrook families, alumni, and friends gathered on Tuesday, November 5th, to reconnect, celebrate their favorite school, and honor a special guest, retiring faculty member Bill Hardy.
The record number of guests in attendance gathered and chatted over two hours while enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Not one, but two headmasters were in attendance - Acting Headmaster Jon Downs '98 and Headmaster Drew Casertano, who will be returning to school at the beginning of December following a 5-month sabbatical. Jon Downs welcomed all in attendance and spoke about the honor of heading Millbrook while Drew and Linda enjoyed the gift of time, awarded by Millbrook's board of trustees for their 30 years of service to Millbrook. Drew and Linda Casertano were both thrilled to see so many friends and families, as they prepare to return to school at the end of the month. Drew recapped their sabbatical experience to date including spending time with family, traveling to Ireland, and consulting in Hawaii. Drew also introduced Bill Hardy and commended Bill's extraordinary teaching career that has inspired thousands of Millbrook students over the past 30 years.
Bill Hardy appreciated all in the room as there were so many "who have made our lives rich because of the opportunity of sharing an education with you. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts." He is looking forward to retirement and spending time relaxing at Millbrook, since his wife, The Reverend Cam Hardy, will continue in her faculty role as the school's chaplain.
Millbrook's talented student acapella group, Millbrook Singers, punctuated the 7:00 hour with two performances including Sky Above and Take Me Home, Country Roads.
