When our alumni are happy and connected to the school, we are confident that we are doing something right. There is no greater connection than coming back to Millbrook to teach, and we are proud to currently employ several graduates as administrators, teachers, dorm parents, coaches, and mentors. Two newcomers, Meg Lahey ’15 and Micah Adams ’15, join Bob Anthony ’65, Jon Downs ’98, Ava Goodale ’01, Cora MacKenzie ’12, Gordie MacKenzie ’79, Vinnie Sorriento ’96, Sarah Stanton ’89, and Eleni Stefanopoulos ’92 on the faculty this year. How fortunate for Millbrook – how fortunate for our students!
Meg Lahey, a Millbrook honors art student and tri-varsity athlete, graduated from Elmira College in May with a degree in business administration and minor in art. She had a phenomenal athletic career during her four years at Elmira, captaining the women’s ice hockey team and earning AHCA All-American honors. This year at Millbrook, Meg is teaching drawing, painting, and mixed media and serving as a dorm parent in Koenigsberger Hall. She just completed the fall sports season as an assistant coach to field hockey and now continues in that role with the girls’ ice hockey team.
Meg considers teaching a way of giving back: “When I first heard about the opportunity to teach at Millbrook, I was thrilled at the potential to give back to a community that gave me so much. It’s awesome to be learning again from Bill Hardy—I looked up to him as a student and continue to do so as a faculty member. I have greater respect now for Bill and for every one of my teachers. I knew Millbrook faculty worked hard but experiencing this firsthand has shown me how much each teacher is dedicated to making every student’s experience the best.”
Micah Adams, a Millbrook zoo curator and outstanding advanced science student, is also a recent college graduate. He matriculated to the University of Washington, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, and received interdisciplinary honors. Micah is coaching boys’ squash and splitting his time between Millbrook’s science and math departments this year, teaching chemistry this fall and statistics in the spring. He has also reconnected with the Trevor Zoo, having done some really cool animal research with argali sheep and snow leopards in Mongolia and howler monkeys in Costa Rica.
Micah has found teaching and helping students progress to be extremely rewarding: “My favorite part of my first semester has been getting to know my students and student-athletes, pushing them to challenge themselves, and watching them succeed and surpass their own expectations. I’ve also quickly realized the immense dedication of Millbrook’s faculty. Seeing the level of individualized attention, both visible and behind-the-scenes, each student gets at Millbrook, far surpasses anything I could have imagined. I am happy to be reunited with the Millbrook community, which is so supportive and full of incredible people. Being back in the thick of it has reminded me what a special place this school is.”
