Strong Start from the Mustangs, but St. Luke’s Wins

The Millbrook Mustangs welcomed St. Luke’s on our Senior Day. Millbrook carried good momentum into the game from our 6-game winning streak and had a very strong start against Class B powerhouse St. Luke's.

The Mustangs shut down St. Luke’s in the first inning, with two quick ground outs and a strikeout by Natalia Danyluk. The Mustang defense continued to be strong in the second inning: after a quick out on a groundball, St. Luke’s got two runners on, but Danyluk shut down the St. Luke’s scoring attempt with back to back strikeouts.

St. Luke’s scored three in the top of the third inning off some timely hits. In the bottom of the third, Millbrook plated one, when An Tran’s bunt forced an error by the St. Luke’s defense, and Morgan Reed took advantage of the situation with some heads up baserunning.

Millbrook came out strong defensively again in the fourth, facing only three batters. Danyluk followed up her 2-strikeout inning with a HOMERUN blast in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, St. Luke’s was able to plate a few more runs with timely hits and heads up baserunning. The fifth inning did see a great heads up double play from Danyluk and Nash. The Mustangs were able to get one more run back in the bottom of the sixth, after Tommi Nash stole home on a passed ball after reaching base on a hit by pitch and being moved over by Danyluk’s double.

Shout out to our seniors: Kate Craig, An Tran, Danielle Singer, Evelynn Najork, Tommi Nash, Morgan Reed, and our manager Mary Zhang!

We look forward to taking on Canterbury this upcoming Wednesday again, after facing them in a scrimmage earlier this season.
