The Lady Mustangs made the relatively short trip to Washington, CT, to take on The Frederick Gunn School. Millbrook looked to continue their scoring ways after their 2-0 shutout over Canterbury four days earlier. From the opening kickoff, Millbrook established control of the game. A major focus of the team in training has been to work on their 1-2 touch and playing to feet. And the Mustangs did just that.
Fifteen minutes into the game, Millbrook would get on the scoreboard when Estee O'Brien collected a weak Gunn free kick and powered her shot by Gunn's keeper. At the 16:45 mark of the first half, Gunn sent a clearing ball up the middle of the field where Sophia Sorriento returned the ball back via airmail from 45 yards out, tucking the ball just under the crossbar for her first career goal! Two minutes later, Jazmine Mejia received a crossing pass from O'Brien and added another tally before the end of the half. The second half saw the same dominancy and a couple more tallies—one from Naomi Ofosuhemaa (assisted by Merritt Tessier) and a second from O'Brien.
The coaches would like to note the excellent play of the backline (Sorriento, Mary LaFond, Stella Renzi, Piper Smith, and goalkeeper Radly Cherosnick) for keeping Gunn's offense at bay and preserving the shutout—the third of the season! Next up, Cheshire Academy.
