Millbrook girls notch four victories at Senior Day home race
Coach Havard
Millbrook hosted Frederick Gunn, Miss Halls, Hoosac, and Forman on an unseasonably warm October 30th, for our final home race of the season. The 48 starting runners thundered across the fields in the opening half-mile, and while Ski Hill spread the racers out, it was clear this would be a close team race, particularly between Millbrook and Hoosac. Much jockeying and passing occurred in the upper woods, down the chute, and up Pea Hill, and by the time the racers emerged back onto the fields for the home stretch, Millbrook had been able to penetrate Hoosac's pack enough to give the Mustangs the win! Times were not quite as fast as at the race against Kent two weeks earlier, possibly due to the warmer temps, but our runners dug deep and did what they needed to do. Shout outs to: Andy Sassatelli, once again tearing up the course in 19:43; Selina Hung, who not only held off a challenge by Hoosac's top three runners, but came one second away from beating Blake Baumgartner of Frederick Gunn; Ingrid Schmitt and Jaicee Downs, who broke the Hoosac pack in half, cementing our win; Linna Du, coming back from a shin splints setback to earn her spot as Millbrook's fifth runner; Eloise Hegeman, who beat her best time on our course by more than a minute; and co-captain Hailey Mesard, who fought through an ankle injury to finish her final home race. At the race's end, we celebrated Hailey's four years as a stalwart member of Millbrook's program. Congratulations to all!
