Ray's Rules, Tips from a Career Diplomat on Living a Life of Integrity

Students and faculty had the distinct pleasure of a visit from alumnus Raymond Seitz '59 on Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12. Former Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, Mr. Seitz was quite humble about his achievements as the first career diplomat appointed to this post.

Rather than delving into a lecture on diplomacy and foreign policy during his chapel talk presentation on Thursday evening, he chose to present a collection of "Raymond's Rules of Life," a variety of practical, useful "rules" on everything from table manners to interpersonal relationships. While interspersed with a good amount of humor, his chapel talk conveyed important messages about making choices and acting with a high personal standard, truly living life with integrity.

On Friday morning students in Mr. Clizbe's Constitutional Law and History of the Middle East classes had the opportunity to engage in conversation with Ambassador Seitz, as he joined in class discussions on current topics. This was a unique opportunity, to be sure, as students had the opportunity to ask questions of and receive answers from a diplomat with 68 years of wisdom and life experience.

Ambassador Seitz's chapel talk is available online (Special Ink, February 11 Chapel Talk), as is his presentation on foreign policy which he delivered during the 2009 Alumni Reunion Weekend (see our Webcasting page).
