Millbrook Teacher and Alumni Take to the Bikes

Waking up early on a Tuesday morning to run or cycle is nothing new for faculty member Dr. Alan Tousignant, or "Dr. T" to his past and present students.
He frequently can be seen racing through the cross-country trails or cruising down Millbrook School Road on his bicycle; however, this particular Tuesday was a special morning for Dr. T, as he was meeting some of his former students and one current parent for the ultimate bike adventure.

On August 17th, Rhett Roback '04 met Dr. T on campus, and the two began the Northeastern bike tour. Despite a minor flat tire hiccup at mile three, the pair cruised into Hillsdale, NY where they met the rest of their riding gang, current student Joshua Webb '13 and his father Dale Webb. From Hillsdale, the group traveled an impressive ninety-seven miles to Cambridge, NY during their first day. After a much needed night stay in the iconic Blue Willow Hotel, the boys continued their ride to Killington, VT, a mere seventy-six mile trek. The terrain, though extremely strenuous, offered spectacular views of the ski trails and distant mountain tops.

On day three, the group eventually found their way to Bennington, VT despite suffering another flat tire. The eighty mile ride was topped off by a picnic dinner at the hotel. By day four, they crossed state lines into Barrington, Massachusetts and ended their sixty-mile ride to enjoy the friendly ambiance of the town and the delicious candy shop on their last night. The final leg of the trip parted the two groups; Dr. T and Rhett made the forty-five mile ride back to Milllbrook, while the Webbs had a similar journey home to New Hartford, CT.

After logging over 350 miles and witnessing a variety of breathtaking landscape, Dr. T cycled back onto Millbrook's campus on Saturday more energized than ever. The physical fatigue and exhaustion could not compete with the joy Dr. T felt having spent a great week with his former student and current advisee. When asked what was most memorable about the adventure, he replied, "the camaraderie while battling the challenges of such an event!"
