Last week, a stranger clad in a gold hat and cape made an appearance in Assembly. Newcomers to the Millbrook School community were likely puzzled by this oddly dressed man—who claimed to be Art Department Chair Joe Raciti’s twin brother—but campus veterans understood immediately that his appearance signaled the imminent arrival of one of what is quite possibly the most thrilling event of the year: the sixth iteration of the Golden Lips!
An interschool a cappella competition, Golden Lips has been held at Millbrook School since its inception in 2018. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 8 p.m. in the Chelsea Morrison Theater. The event will feature intense vocal competition between Millbrook School and other top boarding schools in the area: Kent School, Cheshire Academy, and last year’s champions Kingswood Oxford School.
One of the most exciting aspects of Golden Lips is the group invited to judge the competition. Past judges have included a group from Berklee College of Music, Pitch, Please! from Northeastern University, and more talented vocalists. This year the judges will be…revealed on the night of the competition!
That’s right—to find out who will decide which singing group takes home the coveted Golden Lips trophy, you’ll have to come watch the action in person at the Holbrook Arts Center.
And in addition to discovering the identity of our secret judges, you can look forward to experiencing a great many other curiosities. The mysterious host will share the sixth chapter of the legendary Doctrine of the Golden Lips, toss the fabled Pyramid of Chance to determine the order of performers, and lead the tumultuous Wall of Noise. Plus, there will be golden treats and accents galore.
So, be on the lookout for more signs of the coming competition in the next couple of weeks. And clear your schedule on May 3 so you don’t miss a single note from the talented competitors!
