Cold Shooting Plagues Millbrook in Second Game of Day-Night Doubleheader
Let's play two! The seminal phrase by legendary Chicago Cub, Ernie Banks, is often said within the context of baseball. For the Millbrook Mustangs, this became a basketball phrase after receiving the schedule for the Rivers Holiday tournament. After a tough, physical loss to a talented Beaver Country Day team, Millbrook tried to stop the bleeding just three hours later against 2016-17 Class-B runners-up, Marianapolis Prep. Armed with size and length, Marianapolis employed a mixture of multiple defenses to keep Millbrook off-rhythm the entire evening. Millbrook finished the game, mostly thanks to Marianapolis' dogged defense, with only three made three-point field goals, a low for the Mustangs this season.
Despite their below-average perimeter shooting, Millbrook remained competitive and energetic throughout the game. Never trailing by more than 12 points or less than 6 points, Millbrook kept the game close throughout. Despite the result, the Mustangs came out of the game feeling as though they were close to putting together a consistent and well-rounded game. They will need that positivity and consistency as they take on Class-B foe, Gunnery School in a fifth-place game to close out the Rivers Holiday tournament tomorrow.
