The Millbrook Varsity Softball team lost its season opener at Suffield, 1-11, on a blustery Wednesday afternoon. The Mustangs faced a good Suffield pitcher and had a bit of first-game rust. Three Millbrook players had their first career hits in their first games as Mustangs, as Madison Connelly '19, Nikki Bessinger '21, and Morgan Reed '22 each had singles. Reed's single drove in Bessinger in the fifth. Carina Mancini '21 pitched the whole game for the Mustangs, striking out a pair in a solid first outing. She was aided in the field by two spectacular catches - a running grab on a towering fly ball to deep center by Helene Apollon '19 and a sweet snare on a line drive up the middle by shortstop Tommi Nash '22. It was great for the young Millbrook squad to get some game experience, and the Mustangs will travel to Westover on Saturday for game number two.
