Millbrook Takes Two Races Against Frederick Gunn and Sacred Heart
Coach Havard
In her first race at home, Andy Sassatelli sets a record for Millbrook girls on our home course.
Millbrook Girls Cross Country hosted the Frederick Gunn and Sacred Heart teams on our home course on Saturday, Sept. 28th. Overcast, cool, and still, it was perfect racing weather!
Andy Sassatelli '28 set a blistering pace, passing the first mile mark (1/2 way up ski hill) at 5:59, already over a minute ahead of the rest of the field. Sassatelli completed the course in 19:50, a full four minutes ahead of the next runner, and she set a new course record for Millbrook girls.
As the race unfolded, a runner from Sacred Heart solidified the second spot, and two runners from Gunn ran together to finish third and fourth. After that, it was all Millbrook, with Selina Hung, Jaicee Downs, and Ingrid Schmitt all passing the finish next. Schmitt fended off a hard challenge from a Sacred Heart runner to secure 7th in the race. Linna Du battled shin splint pain to finish two more spots back, as Millbrook's fifth runner, Anya Kelmanovich, ran her first 5k to take the next spot in the race, sixth for Millbrook, and Estella Brandenberg was three more spots back as Millbrook's 7th runner. All runners contributed to Millbrook's winning scores: 23-36 against Frederick Gunn, and 21-38 against Sacred Heart!
Hailey Mesard and Nga Ho pushed through challenges to finish their respective races, with Mesard in a tough sprint till the end. Congratulations to the team! On to the Suffield Invitational next weekend!
