Dr. Reed is a professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Furman University in

Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Reed holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from

Hobart and William Smith Colleges; a master's degree in exercise and sport sciences from

the University of Miami, a doctorate in exercise and sport sciences from the University of

Northern Colorado, and, most recently, a master's degree in public health from the University of South Carolina.

Reed’s research focuses on examining links between physical activity and cognitive function of youth, and investigating associations between the built environment and physical

activity. He has disseminated his research in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health,

Preventive Medicine, Preventing Chronic Disease and the Journal of American College Health. Dr. Reed is also the author of Active Education: Lessons for Integrating Physical Activity with Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, and, his most recent book, Activating the Modern Classroom.

Reed is the co-founder of ActivEd and its product Walkabouts. Walkabouts are on-demand

adventures that transform math, language arts, and reading content into short, movement-rich

activities for pre-K through second grade students. This research-based online tool makes it easy for teachers and parents to create lessons that bring key concepts to life through physical

activity. Walkabouts even correlate to the state standards teachers already use to develop and manage their lesson plans. Plus, unlike traditional videos, Walkabouts are dynamic and

different every time they play.
