In a collaboration with the Millbrook Kicks Cancer community service group, the girls varsity hockey team hosted Kent School for a gray-out game to honor the legacy of beloved former faculty member Nancy Keller-Coffey P ’13, ‘14 on Tuesday. Keller-Coffey tragically passed away from brain cancer in November 2024.

The team wore special gray uniforms featuring Keller-Coffey’s initials on the shoulder, and attendees were encouraged to wear gray to show solidarity. Students also organized a bake sale in the lobby of the Mills Athletic Center. All proceeds were donated to a brain cancer research initiative.

Before the game started, both teams lined up on their respective blue lines for the opening ceremony. Students from Millbrook Kicks Cancer read Keller-Coffey’s biography, and then English Instructor Kathy Havard and Rev. Cam Hardy shared memories of their former colleague and friend. Keller-Coffey’s husband, Richard, also offered remarks, thanking Millbrook Kicks Cancer for organizing the event.

“What a terrific job you guys have done, what an honor to Mrs. Keller-Coffey,” he said. “You’ve brought her into the conversation, as it were.”

The proceedings ended with a ceremonial puck drop by Hardy, Havard, and Keller-Coffey. Then, the Mustangs and the Lions got down to business.

Kent struck first midway through the first period, added three more in the second, and never looked back. Millbrook found the back of the net in the second period and tacked on another two scores in the third, but the Lions doubled up the Mustangs in regulation 6–3.

The result wasn’t what they wanted, but the girls fought hard in honor of Keller-Coffey and all who battle against cancer.
